East or West, God's Will is the Best

I know title may contain little humor but to be candid I did find it apt for our little discussion here today. For Last few days I have been listening and meditating the Word of God revolving around the decisions made by few servants of God and how it impacted their whole life. Please read with me Genesis 13:8 onwards. We could see that there was a little strife among the men of Abram and his nephew Lot and to avoid any further disputes, Abram offered a seemingly sensibly solution (V 8,9) to Lot that  "Let's part company. If you go to the left, I'll go to the right; if you go to the right, I'll go to the left.". I want you to be in Lot's place for a moment and consider what options you might have had when Abram told that  its time to part ways. I thought of following four options might have opened in front of Lot.

Option 1: Take the best land and move towards it (as Lot ultimately did)
Option 2: To please his uncle Abram (so that he should not feel bad), make a self-sacrifice and take the lesser fertile plains and move towards that land.
Option 3: To stick to his uncle Abram, and ask him to make peace among their herds somehow and move forward in harmony together.
Option 4: Pray to God and ask for His guidance that if separation is inevitable then what is God's plan for his life and his family.

Bible says that Lot was a righteous man and I know you may think that since it was Abram who asked him to separate and so what Lot did is right after all as he had to choose what is good for him. And as expected, Verse 13 says that "So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out towards the East.". Bible clearly says "He Chose for himself".

I am sure every christian at sometime of his/her life are presented with an option to Choose for themselves. But as Proverbs 14:12 says "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.", Something similar happened with Lot also as we could see in later chapters that the Land turned out to be a curse for him eventually.  He suffered Shame, Loss of his Inheritance, Loss of his dear Wife and even Loss of his Dignity.

Now consider another example from the Bible that we read in 1 Kings 17. Elijah after prophesying against King Ahab that there will no Rain or Dew again except at his word (v 1), we can see that immediately God commanded him to Leave and move towards "East". v2,3 "Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: Leave from here, turn Eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan" and we can see there How God himself provided for him through Ravens (V4) during those times when there was famine in the whole land.

If you observe these two cases, in First example "Lot Chose for himself and set out towards the East" and in Second example, "The word of the LORD came to Elijah and told him to Turn Eastward". What I concluded is that its not the Place (as in here direction East) which has got problems but it was how the Choice was made by these servants of God.

If we depend upon our own wisdom and Choose for ourselves then rest assured howsoever the Opportunity, Place or People looks good initially it won't be fruitful for us in the long run and may even result in our Spiritual devastation.
While on the other hand if we let God make a choice for ourselves (when we are presented with a choice to make), we can see God's mighty Hand of deliverance and provisions for us even if our wisdom may go against that decision initially.

I may sound bit philosophical here when I say that every Decision or Choice that we make, we must make according to God's divine will. It may even sound bit impractical as well at times to ask for God's will in every small and sometimes trivial decisions of life but let me boldly assure you that every decision that you make according to God's will, releases God's provisions for you and you will find His mighty hand sustaining you at every step there after till your goals are accomplished.

I would like to agree with Jim Elliot "God always gives His best to those who leave the choice with Him."

Next time when you are faced with making a Choice in your Personal, Spiritual, Financial or Family life, try asking God's will sincerely and make a Choice that pleases Him.
I'm sure you will see that your life will never be the same again if we move ahead in our christian life with this attitude in Christ.

I pray that God may help each one of you to make Choices in life that are driven only by His Will.

God Bless You,

True Exaltation

True Exaltation !!

The only address and background that we know about Elijah, one of the greatest prophets of God in Old Testament history is "And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead" -1Kings 17:1
No Family background and No qualifications to boast but Yet this man of God was exalted highly among all known prophets and was even one of two persons who never saw death and was taken to Heaven in a flaming chariot.

The reason I concluded for the exaltation of this Humble servant of God is that he stood up boldly for God and His true Worship in a time when idolatry was ruling over the land and when wickedness of men was growing leaps and bounds under the rule of King Ahab and his wife Jezebel.

Sometimes feel disappointed and sad when I see people of God all around us trying to establish their own identity using their own means without knowing that true Exaltation actually belongs to God. Many christian Ministers in today's Christian world are striving so hard to do their own ministry but not to do God's work according to His will, Forgetting that its too dangerous as well as unfruitful to do God's work with our own strength and wisdom, as the only outcome will be a life full of disappointments and Spiritual devastation. Bible says, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time" -1Peter 5:6

I like what Servant of God, Anil Kant says here "Serving the Lord is not by COMPETITION, but by CALLING.. We don't do things because others are doing it, but because the Holy Spirit is leading us..!!! NOT BY IMITATION, BUT BY ANOINTING.."

We must remind ourselves the most important message of Christ:
"The time has come," He said. "The Kingdom of God has come near. Repent and Believe the Good news!" -Mark 1:15

The world is preparing itself for a mighty Revival in days ahead. I pray and believe that we are going to witness the same soon. The only thing we need to do is "Repent, Believe and Be Ready..."

"He that hath an Ear, let him Hear..."

Its all in the Attitude: Disbelief or Trust, Mock or Submit

Luke 1:26-38
When angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her the good news that she will conceive and give birth to a son (V 26-37), she answered "I am the Lord’s servant, May your word to me be fulfilled." (V38)

Genesis 18:12
When the Angel of the Lord told Abraham that your wife will have a son next year at this time, Sarah disbelieved the promise and laughed to herself.

As we scan through the human history in Bible, we can see that God has been consistently talking to His children from time to time and revealing His will in their lives. The only thing that seemed inconsistent though, is the way His children believed those Promises and Counsels in their lives.
The situation is not much different today, even though we have a huge group of witnesses as per Hebrews 11 but still sometimes we are not able to imitate their Faith and put our Blind Trust on God in all situations of our lives.

Mary a simple Jewish woman with not much traditional background to boast, once had an extraordinary encounter with God. The angel Gabriel appeared before Mary and told her that she is the chosen one. She is the one through whom a savior will be born.
May I request you to pause at this moment and consider this situation. How we would have responded to God's call in such a situation. Mary has all the right to disbelief and disregard God's promises. We can broadly classify Christians as follows, on the basis how they may react if such a situation happens in their lives:

1. We may have Christians who start doubting from the stage 1 itself. Questions like, Am I really the one? Why would God choose me at all? This can't be true etc. They never accept their shortcomings or weaknesses and never allow Holy Spirit to take control in their lives.
2. We may have Christians who doesn't deny such an experience but still can't believe it wholeheartedly but who look at the circumstances around and start doubting the promises of God.
3. We may have Christians who blindly trust and submit to the God's will from the very beginning. Who prefer to say "But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."" Psalms 31:14

As per me Virgin Mary more or less belonged to the Type 2 of Christians but what I admire is her Humbleness and Honesty. Yes she had some doubts but instead of trying to lie to the spirit of God she rather choose to open her doubts before God. When Angel of God explained her how she will be used by the God and how the savior will be born she understood and trusted that and never doubted that promise again in her life.
Sarah on the other hand even after being found out by God's angel that she disbelieved, she chose to hide her doubts. God had to ultimately end the discussion by telling her that she lied. What a pathetic situation for a christian when we are found wanting in the eyes of God.
I believe since it was God's divine plans in the life of Abraham that must come to Pass, that God still used Sarah to be the mother of Nations but we can't guarantee that we can be this lucky to receive the promises in our lives even after doubting the Promises of God.

Its not uncommon that in all the ages there existed Christians who Laugh hearing the Promises and Counsel of God and there are Christians who Submit to the Will of God and believe His Promises just like Mary did. Doubts are sometimes a natural reaction of a feeble human mind but what is unnatural, is Accepting our Fears and Doubts and presenting them as it is to God and asking for His divine Grace to overcome these fears and doubts and put our complete trust on Him and submit our Lives fully into the hands of our God.

Let me conclude my thoughts by asking you a question.
Which Group are you In?
Do you Laugh and Disregard the Promises and Counsels of God in your life or Do you believe God's Promises and Submit fully to His Will in your life?

Believe me your Attitude and Outlook towards God's promises and His will, can redefine your whole Christian purpose in life.
Psalm 9:10 "Those who know your name will Trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you."

Why God Why?

Why God Why?

This is a one of the common response of all people in times of their suffering & hardships. Whether believer or non believer, all of us tend to ask God why we have to endure all these sufferings, bear pain or go through all these troubles. There is no doubt that the suffering caused by our own acts of Sins or disobedience towards God is harmful to us but when we are faithful and honest towards our God, the same suffering can bring favorable results and can really take our lives to new realms of spiritual closeness with our almighty God. As Psalmist says in Psalms 119:50 “Even in my suffering I was comforted because your promise gave me life”, lets try to grasp some positive outcomes of suffering or hardships in our lives.
Suffering can turn us into Humble, Enduring & God seeking Character. As Bible tells us about Manasseh in 2 Chronicles 33:12 “In his suffering he became humble, turned to the LORD his God, and begged him for help.”, Sometimes God’s direct reply to our disobedience and lack of trust on Him is a small period of suffering, shame and disgrace in our lives which sometimes helps us to humble ourselves more in the presence of God and re-establish our broken relationship with God. Suffering of any form to faithful children of God, is a means of shedding one’s own self righteous image as it says in Job 33:19 “God corrects us by sending sickness and filling our bodies with pain.”, We must understand that suffering intends to Make us and not Break us.
Suffering teaches us how to respond to other’s suffering and pain. When a faithful Christian goes through the times of suffering, loneliness & rejection in his/her life, it teaches him/her how to respond appropriately to other’s suffering. As per me this is one of the least learned aspects of suffering in today’s Christian circle. We can pray for those who don’t have job, who are sick, who are homeless or who are lonely but we cannot intercede and cry for them in presence of God until and unless we know somewhat the same pain and burden that they are going through. Bible says in 2 Corinthians 1:4 “He helps us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help others who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God.”, we can lend the same love and care to those who are suffering as we have received from God in our times of trouble. In reality, Suffering transforms us into good human beings by making us more sensitive to other’s suffering & pain. There is no room for hypocrisy when a Christian who endured suffering and troubles in his/her own life consoles a troubled soul in his/her own vicinity.
Believe it or not, Suffering is a guarantee for a beautiful and a blessed future. Bible says in Romans 8:17 “Since we are his children, we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people, and we will also possess with Christ what God has kept for him; for if we share Christ's suffering, we will also share his glory.”. This is one of most wonderful promises ever mentioned in Bible, our suffering makes us copartner with Christ’s Glory and inheritance which is not of this earth but is everlasting. Suffering makes eligible to enjoy the eternal inheritance God has kept for us. Consider Deuteronomy 8:16 “… He sent hardships on you to test you, so that in the end he could bless you with good things.” A lesser known Japanese poet Masahide once said, “My Barn having burned to the ground, I can now see the Moon.”. We can be assured of our eternal inheritance in heaven when we score well in our testing times on earth.
My dear comrades in Christ, Enemy brings trials & sufferings in our lives to harm us but God can turn those sufferings and trials for our good (Romans 8:28). As Bible puts it, the greatest example of this is the crucification of Christ. Satan intended the death of Christ as a defeat for God but God turned it out to be the salvation for all mankind.(1 Peter 2:21-24). Let me close with thought provoking words of Francis de Sales “Do not desire crosses, unless you have borne well those laid on you; it is an abuse to long after martyrdom while unable to bear an insult patiently.”
May God help all of us to endure all our troubles, hardships & difficulties patiently and makes us a worthy servants of God (2Corinthians 6:4)
God Bless You.

Remember therefore from whence thou art Fallen

Yes, that is the call that God, the Almighty Father has been giving to the Israelites in the past and to the contemporary Christians. To build the context of discussion, let’s read following few verses from Bible: Isaiah 1:11 He says, "Do you think I want all these sacrifices you keep offering to me?”.
Isaiah 1:14I hate your New Moon Festivals and holy days; they are a burden that I am tired of bearing.”

As we read the above verses we find that there are indeed few things that our God is also sometimes tired off. We find that God is really not pleased by the unworthy and monotonous sacrifices that Israelites (the chosen people of God) have been presenting religiously before God. To understand as to why God is considering their sacrifices as burden in Isaiah 1:14 we need to read Isaiah 1:4 "You are doomed, you sinful nation, you corrupt and evil people! Your sins drag you down! You have rejected the LORD, the holy God of Israel, and have turned your backs on him.". It’s really disturbing and heartbreaking to know that the nation that was once so close to God, is now being hated by God to this extent that He is not willing to accept anything from them. The reason is simple to understand. If we give attention to the last portion of Isaiah 1:4 it says that Israelites have rejected the Lord and have turned their backs on Him. Even though this has been said about the Israelites of past it holds equally true for the modern day Christians as well. Its not Bulls or Rams but the present day Christians also sacrifice to God and that sacrifice is our Praise that we present through our lips. We must understand that even though we are offering sacrifices of Praise through our lips to our Father in Heaven, at times they are burden to Him. Isaiah 1:15 further says "When you lift your hands in prayer, I will not look at you. No matter how much you pray, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with blood.” Now this is something that all Christians should seriously note. Meditating on above verses will help us understand the reasons of our failure as a Christian. As I was reading all these passages I was trying to correlate these verses with the life of a Christian today. Isaiah 1:4 says "...You have rejected/forsaken the LORD...". Its easy to overlook or bypass this verse thinking that we are born again Christians and so it does not apply to us but pausing on this portion for a moment will help us understand that the Christ who should be our eternal part throughout our day to day Christians life has just become a mere entity confined within the walls of Church. As an example, Many times we find Christians, who sound so humble and sweet inside the church, but we find them arguing unnecessarily on petty issues with other people in their vicinity. Problem is even though we have not rejected Christ in totality but we are unable to carry Him along with us always especially when it’s our golden chance to become a facade of Christ in this world. We continue to reject our Christ and Our heavenly Father at many instances of our routine lives. After reading Isaiah 1:15 that says "... No matter how much you pray, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with blood.” I just casually tried to stare at my hands whether my hands are really covered with blood but I found nothing. It so happened that suddenly I was reminded by the Spirit of God about 1John 3:15 "Those who hate others are murderers...” I was dumbfounded when I read that verse. Knowingly or unknowingly, we start judging and hating our fellow Christians on trivial things. At times we turn a blind eye to the pleas of our fellow Christians on the pretext of our spoiled relationship with them. We forget this small truth that God considers us like a murderer if we nurture hatred for our fellow Christians for whatever reasons. Bible Says, Many times we ourselves are the biggest stumbling block to the faith of our fellow Christians (1Corinthians 8:11, 12). All these things God have been telling to His very own people (and the so called today's born again Christians too).
Just to conclude my words with a word of warning mentioned in Revelation 2. After commending the Church of Ephesus in Revelation 2: 2,3; God's spirit suddenly brought out a serious problem in the Church of Ephesus and it's that, "But this is what I have against you: you do not love me now as you did at first. Think how far you have fallen! Turn from your sins and do what you did at first. If you don't turn from your sins, I will come to you and take your lamp stand from its place." -Revelation 2:4,5. If we give a careful reading, these words were told to the church of Ephesus (i.e. to the born again Christians), God is urging members of Church to "Turn away from their sins..." Well In plain words, this precisely means that God is telling us to Repent Again and get renewed again in our Christian Faith. Someone rightly said, “In heaven, God will not ask us why we sinned; He will ask us why we didn't repent”. It’s a wakeup call that reminds all of us that Repentance is not a onetime process that makes us eligible for getting baptized in the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy spirit but it’s indeed a continuous and a never ending process for a true Christian. We need to examine ourselves continuously without miss (Psalms 139:23, 24) to keep ourselves properly tuned to the will of God while we run the race of faith on this earth.

As we live in this world ruled by Enemy, we at times knowingly or unknowingly step into muddy waters of Sins and so its critical for us to cleanse ourselves daily with the precious blood of our Lord Jesus Christ (Psalms 51:7) and eternally enjoy the Joy of Salvation that comes from our Father (Psalms 51:12). Let’s stop blaming and judging fellow Christians and let’s pray “Lord, reform Thy world, beginning with me.”.

The Misplaced Faith?

Sometimes back I got this interesting forwarded article by mail. It does have point to make so I thought it worth to share with you all Christian friends here in this post. Here it goes…

In a small town, a person decided to open up a brothel, which was right
opposite to a church. The church & its congregation started a campaign
to block the brothel from opening with petitions and prayed daily
against his business.

Work progressed. However, when it was almost complete and was about to
open a few days later, a strong lightning struck the brothel and it was
burnt to the ground.

The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, till the
brothel owner sued the church authorities on the grounds that the church
through its congregation & prayers was ultimately responsible for the
destruction of his brothel, either through direct or indirect actions or
means.

In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all
responsibility or any connection that their prayers were reasons for the
act of God. As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over
the paperwork at the hearing and commented:

"I don't know how I'm going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork, we have a brothel owner who believes in the power of prayer and we have an entire church that doesn't."

How often we try to pray by Faith but Fail miserably to assess the results of our prayers by Faith.
My dear Brothers and Sisters, Can we dare to stand by our Faith?

God Bless You,

Have you seen the mirror today?

There is hardly any day when we forget to see the mirror though it depends how much time we tend to spend before the mirror. Even though being one of those ordinary objects at our home “Mirror” is perhaps the only lifeless object that dares to be honest with us at all times.

When I look in the mirror in the morning, the first thing I observe is, myself. My rugged look and untidy appearance is something that my mirror points to me very plainly and without any fear. I wonder why a small trivial thing like mirror finds its place in Word of God, Bible.

Bible Says:

If you listen to the word, but do not put it into practice you are like people who look in a mirror and see themselves as they are. They take a good look at themselves and then go away and at once forget what they look like. - James 1:23, 24

How wonderfully Apostle James compares, the Word of God with a mirror and draws a conclusion worth seeking our attention. Apostle says when we listen to word of God and fail to bring it into practice we deceive ourselves as a Christian. The quality of mirror is that it speaks honestly to us. If we are looking untidy it never says that we are looking good instead it brings our true picture in front of us. Our trust and subsequent reaction on the mirror decides how we are going to impact others.

The more time we spend with the mirror the more it helps us to identify the scars, flaws and filth surrounding us.

Holy Bible for a Christian is indeed a true mirror. When a Christian spends his time with Bible, it reveals the spiritual blindness, moral deficiencies and sometimes his fake righteousness too. Most of the contemporary Christians have built around themselves a cocoon of worldly thoughts and a layer of disguised spirituality that stops them to rise and act according to word of God. Their inability to mend their ways after encountering the Word of God, further deteriorate their spiritual conscious. The moment we see mirror we tend to organize our physical appearance just because we want to present ourselves to the world in a pleasing manner. As long as we are in front of mirror the process of self adjustment and correction continues but the moment we look away from mirror, slowly and steadily we tend to forget how we looked. We continue to assume that there is nothing wrong with us and that others are comfortable with us. One day while I was getting ready for office I forgot to see the mirror and went to office being unaware that my hairs were uncombed. When I came back home and saw myself in the mirror, I found that how untidy were my hairs. I wondered what everyone in the office might have thought about me. I felt bit embarrassed too. Sometimes though people around us won’t complain or comment about our shortcomings directly but they do note them.

Bible Says

“Do not deceive yourselves by just listening to his Word; instead, put it into practice.” - James 1:22.

Notice the use of word “just” by apostle. He admits that listening to the Word of God is important but he also suggests that just listening alone is not sufficient. We must act according to the Word of God and try to follow it sincerely in our day to day lives and practice it diligently.

Do we remember, when was the last time we followed that timid voice of Holy Spirit?

When was the last time we acknowledged our sins and filthy ways in front of God and sought His help?

Let’s learn from David when he cries to God:

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. - Psalms 51:4

When word of God reaches us and convicts us of our sins and unrighteousness, we can say it’s a mirror that is being honest with us. And when we being the true child of God listen to that true voice, admit to God that we are indeed weak and ask for God’s forgiveness and help of Holy Spirit to combat our sins, trust me, we are acting honestly to our Almighty Father in Heaven.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, how long will we continue to deceive ourselves? Its time to seek Lord’s Help and His Grace to follow what Holy Spirit is telling us to do? Jesus himself has said:

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." - Mark 14:38

So let’s pray to God to do His good will and let’s not forget to gaze the mirror (Holy Bible) daily.

God Bless You,

Brother in Christ,
